vespa 400

30.000 items were produced in France and exported to Europe , USA (1000 items) , Australia , New Zealand .

This car was introduced on the market in France by Juan Manual Fangio, the most fabulous formula one driver .

Vespa (Vasp) in Italian , famous for his scooter (M.Piaggio) would have liked to take a part of the market of the “Fiat 500”.

This car was ingenious = front and rear suspensions were a head at this time . This tiny car was comfortable for two persons and eventually two children and very pleasant to drive as a kart .

The marketing of the company (ACMA) was aggressive but they did a bad choice about their distributors selling scooters or motorcycles .

It was the same in your country (USA) about Renault and Dauphine .

The Vespa factory in 1958 decided to participate to the most famous race rally on ice = “Monte Carlo” . The three cars reached the arrival without any problems The motor was modified = the factory speed was 130 Km/h with really better accelerations .

Some friends of mine and myself used at this period this kind of car for race rallies . It was not a “Ferrari” but we use to have good scores in race rallies of amateurs. About the restoration of this car (the motor is solid) there are many things to respect to make it working well (a two chokes engine is often capricious) .

The perfect airtightness of the parts of the motor is absolutely imperative – above part – carburettor factory prescriptions of plugs and ignition points ; good conditions if the exhaust so that the gas car live fluently (less of power) ; bad idle ; difficulties to start etc …

I can furnish you a brochure about all the things to verify , to regulate and settle every things for this car without troubles .
